After a tremendously successful spring campaign in the Girls Academy, the Spokane Sounders are thrilled to announce that five of its six sides are headed to Oceanside, CA for the GA National Playoffs – the most of any club in the 15 member Northwest Conference that features teams from Washington, Oregon and Northern California.

The five teams headed to the event mark a monumental moment for the club at the national stage in what is the leading youth development platform for girls soccer. The club has long been a leader in the northwest region, but sending the highest number of teams from competition also featuring California clubs marks a new high.

“This is an amazing achievement by all these young players,” said Girls Director of Coaching Kevin Moon. “To have accomplished what they have done program-wide is a testament to all of the hard work the players and the coaches have put in over the years to make the Spokane Sounders not only the best club in the area, but a top developmental program in the northwest as well.”

Three of the five were automatic qualifiers with two more advancing as wild cards, which were determined on a national basis from all league and non-league results from other GA events. California club Lamorinda was second with four entrants qualifying while fellow northwest side OL Reign Academy (Seattle) is sending three, as is Palo Alto SC. The club nearly saw all six qualify, but the G2003/04 squad (13-3-1, fourth in conference) narrowly missed the cut for the smaller U19 playoff bracket. Other northwest region clubs sending teams are ISC Gunners (one) of Issaquah and the Oregon duo of Washington Timbers (two) and Bridge City (one).
