What is the ECNL (Elite Clubs National League)?
The ECNL was founded in 2009 by forward-thinking Directors of Coaching across the country who saw a need for change in and special commitment to improving the daily environment for American elite female youth soccer players. These Directors came together and collaborated to build what would become the top female youth development platform in the world. The grassroots leadership and cooperation were unprecedented in American youth soccer, and the ECNL continues to be the most progressive and innovative development platform in the country while also being the home for the very best youth players in the United States.

What Age Groups play in the ECNL?
U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18/19
How Many Players Can Be on an ECNL Roster?
ECNL rules allow a maximum of 30 players to be rostered, with 18 eligible to participate on game days.
How Much Travel is Involved in ECNL Play?
The ECNL NW Conference provides elite competition within the State of Washington. A typical conference season includes travel to the west side and southwest parts of the state. There is no team travel for conference games.
What are the ECNL National Events?
The ECNL National Events are set up as the best college recruiting events in the country while also providing our teams with meaningful non-conference games. The Spokane Sounders typically attends Phoenix (November) and another event in the Spring. Over 300 coaches attend these events, held at outstanding facilities, and they are regarded in college coaching circles as must attend weekends.
Do Players Travel Together to ECNL National Events?
Yes – teams travel together to National Events. The club makes travel arrangements for all players, coaches and team managers. This includes group flights, hotel and rental vans.
Can ECNL Teams Participate in Non-ECNL Showcases, Games, and Events?
Yes. ECNL rules allow our players to participate in non-ECNL events, providing maximum college exposure and development opportunities.
Where are ECNL Training Held and How Often Do Teams Train?
Spokane Sounders ECNL teams train primarily at the Polo Fields in Airway Heights. During the winter months, training is held at Dwight Merkel Complex. ECNL teams train 2 – 3 times a week.
How long is the ECNL season?
Training typically begins the first week of June and ends mid-February for U15 – U18/19 teams. U13 & U14 teams train until May.
What are the costs associated with playing for an ECNL team?
Costs associated with participating on an ECNL team include club dues, player, team manager and coach travel fees, tournament fees and uniform fee. Financial Assistance is available for players who qualify based on free/reduced lunch benefits, income, or special circumstances. When awarded, financial assistance is applied to club dues only.
How is participating in ECNL beneficial for college recruiting?
ECNL teams attract college coaches given the level of play associated with this league. Additionally, the showcase events provide a convenient opportunity for college coaches to attend in order to evaluate and recruit numerous players and teams.
