Dan Philp Named Shadow NPSL Head Coach
Wednesday, February 5, 2020
The Spokane Shadow proudly announce the appointment of longtime club coach Dan Philp as the new head coach for the Shadow National Premier Soccer League team for the upcoming 2020 season.
“I am excited to continue the men’s team tradition following on from the standard set by Mike Pellicio the past two years with the NPSL team, and am looking forward to seeing our club products and local college players compete with top players from around the region.”
Philp will the lead on a team that will likely feature a number of players that he has worked with over the past five years while serving as an EPD coach for Washington Youth Soccer. He has managed 2003, 2001, 2002 and 2009 age groups over that span.
A coach with the club since 2007, he takes command of the squad with previous experience as a player and coach at the level, briefly managing the unaffiliated Spokane Spiders of the USL Premier Development League in 2007, the team’s most successful of four seasons. He also played for the team from 2007-10. Philp also recently joined the women’s soccer staff as an assistant coach for the Community Colleges of Spokane this past fall.
A native of London, Philp also played semi-professionally in England from 1998-2005 before moving to the United States.
Philp is currently the coach for the G07 Rave and Shale teams playing in the RCL. The Rave girls are currently second in RCL U13 Division 1. A year ago he guided the G03 Rave side to second in RCL U16 Division 1.
“Dan has been a pillar in the Spokane soccer community,” said Technical Director Abbas Faridnia. “He has previous experience coaching the USL Spokane Spiders. Dan’s experience and knowledge of our system and style of play will provide minimal change as he takes over for Mike Pellicio following his two excellent years at the helm of the team.”
In addition to returning players, the Shadow will be holding tryouts for the team this season. They will be announced shortly.
