The Spokane Shadow is excited to announce the addition of Morgan Hartanov to the staff as the new Recreation Director, overseeing programming for children beginning their soccer journey ages 4-8.

Check out the new… SHADOW REC+

The Spokane native has been actively involved in the coaching community since graduation, beginning as Youth Director at XIFA Soccer Club in 2010 and most recently as an assistant coach for Mt Spokane’s soccer programs.

“We are incredibly excited to announce Morgan Hartanov as the Director of our U4–U8 program, now Shadow Rec+” said Shadow General Manager Drew Williams. “Morgan is truly one of a kind and a pillar of the Spokane soccer community. His background reflects a rare blend of elite coaching experience, strategic business leadership, and a genuine heart for serving people. In addition to being a respected soccer leader, Morgan serves as the Chief Revenue Officer at TrustBuilder, where he helped launch and grow a company focused on building trust, strengthening culture, and developing people-first organizations.

“That combination of soccer expertise and intentional leadership is exactly what this program needs. Morgan deeply understands that meaningful development begins with the person before the player, and under his leadership, Shadow Rec+ will help shape not just better soccer players, but confident, thoughtful, and resilient young people who love the game and grow through it.”

Following his graduation from Spokane in 2006 and a collegiate career that took him to Vanguard University, Shoreline CC and the Spokane Colleges, he began his coaching career with a four-year stint at XIFA before spending a few seasons with Washington East SC and eventually launching The 90 Plus Project in 2015, where he served as Executive Director and Coaching Director through 2022.

During that time, he also began coaching in the community on the scholastic side, beginning with a three-year stint from 2016-18 as the head coach at Cheney and assistant for the Whitworth Men from 2016-21. He returned to his alma mater Mt Spokane in 2018, serving as boys head coach from 2018-22 and returning as an assistant in 2024. He also joined the girls program last fall as an assistant.

ā€œI’m excited to join Spokane Shadow because of the impact the club has across Spokane and its commitment to serving youth in our community. This is a unique opportunity to work with players at the earliest stages of their soccer journey and help create a positive, meaningful experience that sets the foundation for their growth both on and off the field.ā€

Off the pitch, he launched in 2023 the Ubuntu Spokane Soccer, community-focused youth soccer organization offering local camps, clinics, and player development opportunities.

Utilizing core soccer teamwork principals, he also founded TrustBuilder, a consulting and education company focused on building trust-based systems within organizations, teams, and relationships. The work centers on communication, clarity, and long-term culture development – all principles that also strongly inform his coaching philosophy.
