More Success as Boys HS Seasons Come to a Close

The final weeks of the high school age boys season wrapped up over the past month with a trio of teams in action at a pair of events. The B05/06 and B09 squads capped things off at the Mayor’s Cup in Vegas whilst the B07s travelled cross-country to ECNL Florida.
Last weekend the two squads went a combined 3-3-2 down in Vegas, playing incredibly well in their final performances of the year per coach Jesse Retan.
In their final outing the senior group battled through a series of one-goal decisions. After opening with a 0-1 loss to Pride SC, they played the ABC Travel Concepts All-Star squad out of Germany to a 2-2 draw later in the day. Then on Sunday they topped BVB International Academy Texas 1-0 and came up just short in a 1-2 loss to Blue Knights SC in the consolation contest.
Highlighting the weekend, though, was a quarterfinal appearance for the B07s, who opened with a scoreless draw against Alaska Rush before posting a pair of shutout wins against Las Vegas Sports Academy (3-0) and Real Colorado North National (1-0) to complete group play without allowing a goal. Josh Guill was in net for all three clean sheets.
“Josh played excellent with his ball playing ability the whole weekend, not only connecting passes in his defensive third, but also breaking lines with side volleys into the middle third and balls being clipped in the air as well,” said keeper coach Bryan Hernandez.
Unfortunately, they came up against another Real Colorado squad, Centauros Fury, in the final eight and were knocked out 2-0.
The B07 put forth a strong performance the opening weekend of February in Florida at the ECNL RL Event, going 1-1-1 in their group and representation in the ECNL RL Selection Game.
The boys kicked things off Friday with a 1-1 draw against Chicago Magic before suffering a narrow 1-0 loss on Saturday to RISE SC. They bounced back well to cap the event off with a 2-1 victory Sunday against Sporting Nebraska.
Friday evening was capped off with the league’s big national selection game, featuring 36 players from all the teams at the event. Defender Tyler Geffken represented the Spokane Sounders on the pitch whilst B07 head coach and club goalkeeper coach Bryan Hernandez handled coaching responsibilities for the keepers.
