Five Shadow Sides Head to GA National Playoffs
Wednesday, June 18, 2025
The Spokane Shadow are headed to the Girls Academy National Playoffs June 19-24 in Norco, California at the Silverlakes Sports Complex. Five teams qualified as Northwest Division champions for the 2024-25 season.
An outstanding campaign saw the club finish atop the table in five of the six age groups this season along with a third-place finish for the graduating G06/07 squad, the most dominant performance club-wide in the region since the GA’s launch in the Pacific Northwest in 2021.
How They Got There…
G2012: The youngest group qualified for the U13 Playoffs with a total record of 25-3-2 (W-L-D) over the course of the fall and spring schedule, finishing 15 points clear of second-place Oregon Premier (20-8-2) in the table. They are headed to California in the midst of an 11-game win streak in divisional play and were 14-0-1 in their last 15.
G2011: Advancing to the U14 Playoffs the squad posted a record of 20-2-8 in their second year of GA competition. It was a big improvement for the girls, who finished third a year ago with a record of 13-6-5. They were six points ahead of Seattle Celtic (19-6-5) over the course of the fall and spring slates. The squad finished the division on a six-game win streak with their two losses on the year coming in the first three games of the fall slate at the hands of the second and third place finishers.
G2010: In their first year of spring-only soccer they advanced to the U15 Playoffs with a dominant 18-1-1 record this season, finishing seven points ahead of local rival Washington East Surf (15-2-3) to flip the script from a year ago. Since suffering their lone loss in May by one goal, the team has run off five consecutive wins with only two goals allowed.
G2009: For the fourth time in four years the ladies finished best amongst the Pacific Northwest clubs. Also finishing with the same 18-1-1 record as the G2010s the U16 Playoff participants were 10 points clear of Seattle Reign Academy on the season. A year ago, they were 14-1-1 and in the 2022-23 season they were 13-2-3. In the debut season of GA in which California clubs were in the division the G09 squad was unbeaten against its fellow Pacific NW contingent with a 10-0-2 record against fellow Washington and Oregon sides. Since their three-game season opening road trip to Oregon saw them suffer their only blemishes in a 0-0 draw and 1-2 loss, the team has rattled off 17 consecutive wins, allowing just seven goals during the run.
G2008: The U17 Playoff squad also nearly went unbeaten with a record of 17-1-2 on the season, finishing three points ahead of Seattle Reign Academy (16-2-2). Since their lone loss of the season by one goal in April the ladies have run out the campaign with a 7-0-1 run to complete the season.
Champions Pedigree
With five of the six teams winning the Pacific Northwest it is expected the Shadow will be officially announced as participants of the Girls Academy Champions League for the 2025-26 season, marking a return after missing out by the narrowest of margins a year ago in a campaign with a lot of parity across the region. It would mark the third time in four years the club will be honored to participate as representatives of the Pacific Northwest.
A return to the Champions League would echo the last qualification when the club saw four teams win Pacific Northwest championships in 2022-23 (G2010, G2009, G2007, G2004/05) with the other two also finishing second and third in their campaigns. The debut campaigns in 2021-22 were also very impressive in advance of their first qualification to the GA Champions League. In contests solely against Pacific NW foes (WA/OR), the club was best amongst the group for G2008 and G2009 with top three finishes for the other four.
In a prime example of the club’s consistent success among the Pacific Northwest GA contingent, it has only had one team finish outside of the top three in any given season… a fourth place finish a year ago by a single point that was also only seven back of the champion. In totality, the Shadow sit firmly atop the Pacific Northwest after four years of competition with some incredible numbers*…
