Fan Faves Return as Shadow Men Prepare for NPSL Opener; Early Success for U23s
Sunday, May 5, 2019
The Spokane Shadow Men’s First Team is excited to announce that among the roster coming together for the 2019 season are seven fan favorites from last season’s Northwest Championship side, including three Conference XI selections.
Leading the contingent are conference award winners Tanner Williams and Spencer Wolfe – both also West Region XI selections along with Bryan Hernandez. They are joined by Jesse Retan, Nick Hamer, Chase Reidt and last year’s breakout First Team player Jake Levine, who was honored as the NPSL Player of the Week during the campaign.
Hernandez finished last season with 10 starts in 12 games, recording four shutouts and completing the campaign with a 1.00 goals-against average. He also tallied an assist this season. Hernandez, who played his senior season at Humboldt University last fall, was in his second season with the club, playing nine games the previous year with a 1.33 GAA and two shutouts.
Wolfe helped lead a fantastic defensive effort that saw the Shadow allow just six goals in 10 games after their season-opening road trip that saw them allow six in two games. The team captain started all nine regular season games in which he appeared, playing the full 90 in each. He also finished with one assist. The Whitworth product is a long-time member of the team since 2015.
Williams was a continual creative force in the attack for the Shadow as the team scored 33 goals in 12 regular season games. He finished the campaign with four goals and five assists in 10 games, adding another helper in the playoff game.

Shadow U23s Open EPLWA Season with Four Points
A mixed group of players comprised of First Team hopefuls, Shadow club standouts and early reporting college players valiantly kicked off the Evergreen Premier League season with a successful two-game road trip.
The squad opened the season with a 1-0 victory against reigning league champion Washington Premier Saturday evening with Spokane Sounder / Mead junior Caiden Fickenscher scoring the game-winning goal courtesy of Michael Rojas in the 68th minute. Goalkeeper Peter Byrne posted the shutout in his debut with the Shadow program.
On Sunday the boys rallied from a goal down against Vancouver Victory. With a free kick strike, Rojas tied things up with about a half-hour remaining and the Shadow, playing against a fresh Victory side, held on for the 1-1 draw. The results put the Shadow atop the Rainier Conference after the opening weekend with four points.
Playing for the U23s this weekend were: Peter Byrne, Ole Cloppenburg, Cole Dobson, Noah Dreves, Caiden Fickenscher, Tanner French, Tyler Lang, Justin LaTorre, Bryan Maxwell, Michael Rojas, Joel Samayoa, Brayden Tucker, Cameron Weller, Noah Whitman and Tanner Williams
