The Spokane Shadow are excited to announce that club alum Drew Williams, an assistant with the Whitworth men, is joining the club on a full-time basis after serving as the head coach and assistant for the Shadow Women’s First Team for the past three seasons. He will serve in the club’s newly-formed General Manager role and as a member of the girls coaching staff in addition to guiding the reigning Northwest Division champion WFT again this summer.

“We are excited to take the next step forward with Spokane Shadow. When I joined the club Drew was a youth player that exemplified the pillars of our club. Drew has made an impact in our Spokane community not only through soccer but through his community involvement. We can’t wait to see the impact for our club and also our community.”

Williams, an acclaimed alumnus of the club, went on to play at Whitworth University and is currently in his fifth year as an assistant coach for the school’s highly successful men’s program. The Pirates won the league and reached the DIII tournament during his tenure. As a player, the North Central product was an All-GSL First Team selection as a senior after two previous honorable mentions. At Whitworth, he tallied 14 goals and three assists.

“My life motto is ‘You’re the best person to help the person you once were,'” said Williams. “I can’t wait to give back to a club that gave me so much as a child and drastically changed the outcome of my life.”

He returned to the club in the summer of 2022 as the assistant coach to Kevin Moon as the WFT made its return to the Women’s Premier Soccer League following its Covid hiatus.

In 2023 he took on the role of head coach and in his second season last summer guided the program to its best finish in team history with a 6-1-1 record for the Northwest Conference record and played host to the West Regional playoffs. They advanced to a National Quarterfinal, where they took storied WPSL side California Storm to penalties before being eliminated by the eventual champions in the toughest contest they faced en route to raising the trophy.

The WFT has long been a proving ground for burgeoning youth talent about to graduate from the program to the college ranks and an opportunity for alumni and area collegiate standouts to work on their game during the summer as the two groups meld into a shared purpose.

In addition to coaching Williams has been heavily involved in real estate, starting with two real estate firms. He also recently launched his own agency Blackbird Abode with his wife Cassandra, his high school sweetheart with whom he has a young boy.
