Crossfire Challenge Success Concludes First Half of Tourney Slate
Saturday, July 24
The first half of the summer tournament calendar wrapped up over the past two weekends with the Crossfire Challenge – among other events – and quite a few sides performing well, claiming three championships among eight semifinal appearances.
Reaching the semifinals of the event were G2003/04 Rave RCL, G2007 GA, B2008 RCL, G2009 RCL, G2010 South Rave, G2010 North Rave, G2013 North Rave and B2003/04 ECNL Composite. The B2005 ECNL and G2008 GA also finished second in their groups but missed out on a wild card while the B2003/04 ECNL team was group second in a bracket with no wild cards.
The B03/04 ECNL Composite gentlemen captured the Silver U19 championship at the Crossfire Challenge with a 2-0-1 performance in group play followed by a pair of 2-0 victories against Eastside FC and Seattle United to capture the title at the event.
At the younger end of the spectrum a group of eight-year olds – G2013 North Rave – impressed with a perfect tournament run with three group wins and a 2-0 championship victory against ISC Gunners to win the Gold U9 bracket with their slightly older counterparts from the G2010 North Rave squad cheering them on.
The G2010 North Rave ladies also finished first, claiming their second tournament title of the summer. They rebounded from a tough 1-0-2 group performance by winning 1-0 against Seattle Celtic in the semifinal and a 3-1 victory against FC Spokane in the championship.
Earlier this summer G2010 North Rave won the Rainier Challenge U12 Samba bracket with a perfect campaign. After three group wins they posted a pair of 1-0 victories against Seattle United and host Washington Premier for the trophy.
They were not alone, though, with the G2010 Valley Rave squad also bringing home a Rainier Challenge trophy, winning the U12 Copa bracket. They went 2-1-0 in group and topped the hosts 1-0 in the semifinal before a big 5-2 victory in the final against Sound FC.
At the Sounders Cup the G2011 sides also performed well with two of the three in action finishing in the top four of their bracket. The G2011 Valley Rave were unbeaten at 2-0-1 and G2011 South Rave 2-1-0 to finish second in their groups in an event that featured only a final between group winners.
