Young Sounders & Shadow Teams Find Success at Pend O’Reille Cup
September 19, 2018
Many of the club’s younger sides made the relatively short trip over the border recently to play in the Pend O’Reille Cup as a final tune-up before their fall seasons began. It was a rather successful showing for the club as 13 of the 18 sides participating advanced to the semifinals or finished among the top of their bracket, including six champions, for a total combined record of 37-19-4.
Highlighting the tournament were a pair of brackets where teams from the club squared off after the group stage. In the Boys U12 Silver bracket the Spokane Sounders B2007 South/Valley Shale team defeated SSC Shadow B2007 United in the championship game in a shootout. In the Girls U12 Silver bracket three club teams advanced from the 12-team bracket into the semifinals. SSC Shadow G2007 United and Spokane Sounders G2007 City Shale fell in the semifinals with Valley Shale winning the latter en route to capturing the championship.
Also winning their respective tournaments were the Spokane Sounders B2009 Valley (4-0-0 in Boys U9), Spokane Sounders G2010 North (3-0-1 in Girls U9), Shadow G2008 United (4-0-0 in Girls U11 Silver) and Spokane Sounders G2009 North Rave (4-0-0 in Girls U10).
The Sounders B2008 South Rave were the runners-up of the Boys U11 Gold group (no bracket) with the Sounders B2008 South Shale (Boys U11 Silver), Sounder B2008 Valley Rave (Boys U11 Silver) and SSC Shadow Elite G2004 White (Girls U15) reaching the semifinals of their brackets.
